Associate Scientist, Advanced Characterization (Biotech)

Location: Onsite at the Emeryville headquarters, United States. No travel is required; office hours are 8am-5pm PT.

Annual base salary: $121,892–$135,435, plus target bonus, equity, and other rewards.

What you will do

• Design, execute, and analyze SPR- and BLI-based assays for antibody and peptide interactions with target proteins.
• Develop and optimize kinetic and epitope binning assays to support clone selection.
• Collaborate with Screening, Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, Bioassays, and antibody discovery teams to interpret binding data and guide advancement decisions.
• Plan experiments, troubleshoot studies, and maintain protocols, SOPs, and experimental reports.
• Present findings in internal meetings and contribute to scientific presentations, posters, and publications.
• Perform protein QC and purification, including SDS-PAGE, analytical SEC, and preparative SEC.

Requirements

• PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biophysics, or a related field with 0+ years of experience; alternatively, an MSc with 7+ years or a BSc with 10+ years of relevant experience.
• Expertise in protein biochemistry and biomolecular interaction analysis.
• Understanding of dose-dependent binding assays, binding affinity, avidity, and the Langmuir 1:1 binding model.
• Practical experience with SPR platforms such as Biacore or Carterra and/or BLI platforms such as Octet.
• Experience with data visualization and interpretation, plus the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to explain scientific findings to non-specialist audiences.

Nice to have

• Wet-lab experience in protein purification and QC, including aSEC and SDS-PAGE.
• Experience with ITC, FRET, stopped-flow fluorescence, or enzyme kinetics.
• Structural biology experience.
• Contributions to scientific publications or patents.
