Product Designer, Design Systems (AI)

Location: San Francisco, CA, United States; hybrid policy requiring staff to work from an office at least 25% of the time

What you will do

• Design and evolve the shared design system for Claude products, covering color, typography, spacing, icons, tokens, theming, and core components.
• Define expressive system elements such as motion, illustration, and iconography.
• Create guidance, metadata, and evaluations that help Claude use the design system correctly.
• Partner with product designers and engineers to apply the system and identify recurring gaps.
• Prototype in code and ship changes to the design-system package alongside engineers using Claude Code.

Requirements

• Strong visual and interaction design craft.
• Experience building or working on design systems.
• Experience with design tokens, theming, and accessibility standards.
• Fluency with the fastest tool for communicating an idea, from Figma to code.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education, training, or professional experience in a relevant field.
• 8+ years of product design experience is preferred and may align with the internal job level.

Nice to have

• Experience building highly polished products.
• Experience shipping voice or other beyond-the-screen experiences with native mobile instincts.
• Experience creating icon sets, illustration styles, or motion systems used across products.
• Experience defining evaluations, lint rules, or automated checks for UI quality.
