Configuration Management and Documentation Specialist/Tech Writer (Cybersecurity)

Location: Remote, with preference for candidates local to the Washington, DC area; position associated with McLean, Virginia, United States.

Salary: $95,000–$107,000 annually, depending on experience.

What you will do

• Maintain a searchable, version-controlled artifact library containing plans, reports, diagrams, configuration documentation, SOPs, test evidence, and technical deliverables.
• Manage configuration items, access controls, baselines, repositories, and the centralized CMDB in alignment with ITSM and ITIL practices.
• Develop and update security baselines for operating systems, databases, cloud-native platforms, medical devices, IoT ecosystems, and other VA technologies.
• Prepare baseline configuration reports, security assessment reports, configuration standards, and remediation recommendations.
• Draft and maintain SOPs, RACI matrices, workflow diagrams, stakeholder training guides, and technical process documentation.
• Coordinate configuration management, requirements traceability, A&A, and ATO activities with engineering, security, and program teams.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of IT experience, including 3 years in configuration management or technical editing within a large corporation or government agency.
• Expertise in configuration management, change management, configuration items, technical process documentation, and project-oriented environments.
• Experience with ITSM frameworks and best practices, including ITIL, and maintaining a CMDB.
• Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in an IT-related field, or an approved education and experience substitution.
• Certification in one or more of IAT Level III, IAM Level III, or IASAE Level III.
• Public Trust clearance is required.
