Documentation Engineer (AI)

Location: Remote, but candidates must be based in the San Francisco Bay metro area; occasional in-person conferences, trade shows, meetups, and other events are required.

Annual salary: $100,000–$175,000 USD, plus equity and benefits.

Arize AI provides an AI observability and evaluation platform that helps engineering teams build, monitor, troubleshoot, and improve reliable AI applications, agents, and models.

What you will do

• Own the accuracy and health of product documentation for Arize AX and Arize Phoenix.
• Build automation to detect documentation drift, test code samples, monitor quality, and draft updates for review.
• Design structured, machine-readable documentation that works for both developers and coding agents.
• Write and maintain tutorials, cookbooks, onboarding content, and open-source demonstration repositories.
• Coordinate documentation with integration partners, framework maintainers, courses, and curriculum authors.
• Use community feedback to inform product roadmaps, support marketing content, answer product questions, and collaborate on feature prototypes.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience in technical writing, documentation engineering, developer relations, or an engineering role involving substantial writing.
• Excellent technical communication skills supported by public documentation, blog posts, or videos.
• Current engineering skills, including docs-as-code workflows, CI, repository-based development, and writing code to maintain documentation.
• Working knowledge of LLM-based application development, including agents, RAG, and orchestration frameworks.
• Interest in how agents read and use documentation, plus the ability to learn continuously in a rapidly changing startup environment.
• Must be based in the San Francisco Bay metro area and willing to attend occasional evening or weekend events in person.

Nice to have

• Experience with AI evaluations and observability platforms.
• Experience automating documentation checks such as link checking, snippet testing, style linting, and LLM-assisted review.
• Knowledge of llms.txt, documentation MCP servers, and machine-readable documentation approaches.
• Active participation in technical communities or experience contributing to open-source projects such as Arize Phoenix.
