Staff Software Engineer - Backend (AI)

Location: Hybrid in New York City, with three days per week at the 4 World Trade Center office and the remainder remote. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.

Salary: $180,000–$220,000 base salary per year, plus meaningful early-stage equity.

What you will do

• Build proxies, SDKs, and agent tooling connecting AI agents and developer frameworks to the platform.
• Own the policy backend, including connectors, rule-source and restricted-list ingestion, and rule-change tracking.
• Develop controls that determine what each AI agent is allowed to do.
• Design for low latency and high reliability under enterprise-scale message traffic.
• Maintain high standards for security and protection of sensitive content.
• Shape the architecture of a new product category as one of the first engineers.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building and operating production backends at scale.
• Strong proficiency in a modern backend language such as Go, Python, Java, or Node.
• Experience with APIs, distributed systems, databases, queues, and caching.
• Comfort with cloud platforms, containers, and CI/CD.
• Focus on latency, reliability, and clean code.
• Authorization to work in the United States.

Nice to have

• Experience with low-latency or real-time systems.
• Experience building SDKs, proxies, or developer-facing infrastructure.
• Experience working with sensitive or regulated data.
