Oracle Database Consultant

Location: Costa Rica; fully remote from home with no daily travel to an office required

What you will do

• Design, implement, configure, administer, and maintain database and application infrastructure, primarily across Oracle environments.
• Analyze client infrastructure, improve operational procedures, and maintain high availability, recoverability, and data integrity.
• Administer backups, disaster recovery, clustering, mirroring, replication, failover, and restoration of corrupted databases.
• Develop data architectures, normalized and dimensional models, DDL, transformation scripts, and migration procedures.
• Manage incidents and recurring problems, prepare action plans and documentation, and recommend monitoring and process improvements.
• Communicate with clients through status and incident reports, client commitments, operating procedures, and technical support; participate in an on-call rotation of approximately one weekend per month.

Requirements

• Experience installing, configuring, administering, and upgrading Oracle databases and related tools.
• Experience with automation technologies such as Ansible, Terraform, Puppet, Chef, or Salt.
• Strong debugging, systematic troubleshooting, and documentation skills.
• Experience with cloud database monitoring, including AWS CloudWatch, Google Cloud Operations, or Azure Monitor.
• Experience migrating databases between Oracle, MySQL, MSSQL, and PostgreSQL, including on-premises-to-cloud migrations, migration tools, and CDC-based techniques.
• Experience with schema conversion, SQL compatibility, post-migration performance tuning, and database administration in cloud or virtualized environments.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of ITIL and participation in Oracle, database, or infrastructure projects.
• Experience with Debezium, Striim, Prometheus, Grafana, SolarWinds, pgAdmin, Zabbix, Nagios, or Datadog.
• Scripting experience with Bash or Python and software development experience with C++, Java, or Go.
