Environmental Specialist/Engineer-Waste

Location: San Antonio, Texas; additional possible locations include refinery sites across the United States. Travel expected: up to 50%.

Salary: $122,900–$212,000 per year.

What you will do

• Lead waste technology strategies, business plans, governance, and best practices for refinery operations.
• Conduct audits and site reviews, develop scorecards, and report waste-related KPIs and environmental performance.
• Identify waste management projects, disposal options, process improvements, and operational optimization opportunities.
• Develop environmental compliance strategies, support permitting activities, and provide regulatory analysis to Legal.
• Mentor site environmental professionals through training, tools, guidance, and knowledge-sharing forums.
• Manage vendors, consultants, licensors, equipment providers, and technology partners while evaluating treatment and disposal technologies.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED plus 15 years of relevant environmental experience in a process industry, or a bachelor’s/advanced degree in engineering or a related HESS field plus 7 years of relevant experience.
• Detailed knowledge of current and proposed environmental regulations and the ability to communicate compliance impacts to local leadership.
• Ability to review engineering designs and specifications for environmental compliance.
• Comprehensive knowledge of industrial facilities and environmental regulations, including methods to prevent recurring environmental problems.
• Ability to work at the specified U.S. locations and travel up to 50%.

Nice to have

• Technical and operational expertise in process technologies.
• Operations experience with startup, shutdown, optimization, and troubleshooting.
• Working knowledge of wastewater systems and equipment.
