Sr Engineer II, Advanced Process Control

Location: Houston, Texas, or Borger, Texas, United States. Houston-based employees may travel up to 50% of the time, mainly to Borger. The role requires onsite industrial work, extended hours, occasional on-call duties, outdoor work, and working around hot equipment, chemicals, and hydrocarbons.

Base salary: $160,200–$195,800 per year.

What you will do

• Lead the design, development, implementation, tuning, and optimization of advanced process control and process control strategies.
• Manage APC and automation projects from concept through commissioning and startup, including scope, scheduling, resources, risks, and partner coordination.
• Assess current and future APC needs, conduct feasibility and cost-benefit studies, and establish implementation priorities.
• Analyze process and control performance data to diagnose complex issues, quantify benefits, and drive improvements across sites.
• Develop and govern standards, specifications, methodologies, documentation, and change strategies for APC, instrumentation, and control systems.
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring while evaluating advanced analytics, real-time optimization, and new control platforms.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline.
• At least 6 years of experience in process engineering, process control, automation, or advanced process control in oil and gas, petrochemical, manufacturing, or a related industry.
• Intermediate proficiency with process control systems and APC applications.
• Legally authorized to work in the United States; temporary visa holders and candidates requiring current or future sponsorship are not eligible.
• Ability to work onsite around industrial equipment, chemicals, hydrocarbons, harsh weather, elevated platforms, and required personal protective equipment.
• Ability to transport articles up to 50 pounds and maintain facial conditions required for respirator use.

Nice to have

• 10 or more years of relevant experience and leadership of complex APC projects through commissioning and startup.
• Experience with multivariable APC, distributed control systems, Honeywell Forge APC, Experion DCS, or similar platforms.
• Experience with advanced data analysis, modeling, optimization, FMEA, root cause analysis, and APC benefit measurement.
• Experience defining engineering standards and mentoring less experienced engineers.
