TL;DR
Environmental Engineer (Pulp & Paper): Managing environmental compliance programs across pulp and paper mills with an accent on air, wastewater, land application, chemical management, permits, and regulatory reporting. Focus on evaluating process changes and capital projects, troubleshooting environmental issues, developing corrective actions, and reducing operational compliance risk.

Location: Counce, Tennessee, with consideration for mill locations in DeRidder, Filer City, International Falls, Jackson, Massillon, Riverville, Tomahawk, Valdosta, and Wallula. Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Starting salary: $86,000–$90,000 per year

What you will do

  • Manage environmental programs, procedures, records, audits, inspections, permits, and regulatory reporting.
  • Maintain compliance across air, wastewater treatment, land application, and chemical management programs.
  • Evaluate mill systems, process changes, capital projects, and equipment installations for environmental compliance risks.
  • Identify environmental issues, develop corrective actions, troubleshoot problems, and follow through with operations, maintenance, engineering, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Support environmental training, project planning, and continuous improvement initiatives that reduce risk and improve mill performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical, environmental, civil engineering, or a related field.
  • 0–4 years of process engineering or environmental engineering experience, including relevant co-op or internship experience.
  • Authorization to work in the United States and a valid driver’s license.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Project.
  • Knowledge of the pulp and paper industry, wastewater treatment, recovery operations, and instrumentation and control systems.
  • Strong communication, analytical, organizational, planning, leadership, decision-making, and relationship-building skills.

Nice to have

  • Experience in the paper industry.
  • Current enrollment or membership at one of PCA’s listed partner universities or eligible state and technological universities.
