Electrical Controls Engineer (Industrial Automation)

Location: Hartsville, South Carolina, USA; applicants may also live in Charlotte, Columbia, Raleigh, or Greenville, with travel associated with the role.

What you will do

• Lead automation and control system projects, coordinating scope, budgets, schedules, contractors, engineering, operations, and maintenance.
• Create documentation packages for bidding, installation, startup, commissioning, and maintenance.
• Develop and maintain a project funnel for control system upgrades and modernization.
• Optimize control system performance with plant process engineers.
• Direct and train maintenance teams on automation systems, preventative maintenance, and controls-related work orders.
• Troubleshoot control system issues and equipment upsets alongside maintenance personnel.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in electrical, mechanical, or chemical engineering; electrical engineering preferred.
• Experience programming PLCs using ladder logic, function diagrams, and structured text.
• Experience with AC and DC drives, control system networks and communication protocols, HMI configuration, and programming.
• Experience with DCS, continuous process controls, field instrumentation, valves, and control system preventative maintenance.
• AutoCAD skills for creating power plans, single-line diagrams, control panel layouts, and electrical control diagrams.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills across engineering, operations, maintenance, and contractors.

Nice to have

• Experience with Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Yaskawa, ABB, or Foxboro systems.
• Experience level suitable for progression from Engineer I through Engineer IV, based on experience and business needs.
