Senior Automation Controls Engineer (PLC/Machine Vision)

Location: On-site in Newark, California, United States

Annual salary: $140,000–$155,000, plus bonus or incentive pay.

What you will do

• Design, program, test, troubleshoot, and support PLC-based control systems, HMIs, and user interface software for automated manufacturing equipment.
• Implement and integrate machine vision systems using Cognex In-Sight, VisionPro, and applicable deep-learning tools.
• Commission equipment, perform upgrades, support validation activities, and troubleshoot production systems.
• Apply established controls, vision, and validation standards to high-volume manufacturing equipment.
• Participate in design reviews, electrical design and code reviews, and cross-functional problem solving.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of related experience, master’s degree with 3+ years, or doctoral degree with related experience.
• Hands-on experience with PLC and HMI programming and troubleshooting, including Rockwell RSLogix 5000 and FactoryTalk.
• Experience with Cognex Designer, In-Sight, VisionPro deep learning, and industrial communication protocols including EtherNet/IP, DeviceNet, IO-Link, and OPC UA.
• Experience with high-speed manufacturing equipment, Fanuc robots, VFDs, servo systems, motion control, safety systems, and standard I/O.
• Background in IEC 61131-3-aligned PLC software, software validation, equipment qualification, technical documentation, and control-panel integration.
