Controls Engineer (PLC/HMI)

Location: Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA; the role includes onsite customer acceptance testing and travel of up to 50%, primarily in North America.

What you will do

• Assist with the design, implementation, and support of PLC and HMI control systems for automated food and beverage processing and blending equipment.
• Develop electrical schematics, bills of materials, process flow diagrams, panel layouts, termination diagrams, and field-wiring schedules.
• Program and integrate PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, control panels, and field devices according to industry and customer requirements.
• Prepare functional narratives, manuals, startup procedures, and other technical documentation.
• Participate in in-house, customer, and onsite acceptance testing; support training for maintenance and operations personnel.
• Troubleshoot control-system issues and collaborate with engineering, production, service, and senior engineering teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related discipline, or final-year undergraduate status.
• 0–2 years of control-systems engineering experience; manufacturing or process-industry internship or co-op experience is beneficial.
• Coursework, internship, or hands-on experience with PLC programming and HMI development using Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Ignition, or similar platforms.
• Basic understanding of control-system theory, including PID control and feedback mechanisms.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, collaboration, and learning skills.
• Ability to travel up to 50%, primarily within North America.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with Ethernet/IP, IO-Link, AS-i, or similar industrial communication protocols.
• Knowledge of NEC, NFPA, ANSI, UL 508A, or related control-system standards.
