Software Engineer (Electron)

Location: Hybrid position based out of hirify.global's Sheffield office, United Kingdom

What you will do

• Develop and maintain Electron main-process, preload, renderer-integration, and Node.js components.
• Configure Chromium and Electron runtimes, command-line options, and build settings.
• Implement Windows desktop lifecycle behavior, operating-system integrations, hardware and system-information access, protocols, and other native functionality.
• Investigate crashes, runtime, memory, security, installation, performance, and compatibility issues.
• Build secure communication between web content and privileged desktop functionality using controlled interfaces and Electron security practices.
• Write unit and integration tests, participate in code reviews and technical investigations, and collaborate with quality, build/release, product, and engineering teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 1 year of professional software engineering experience.
• Experience with JavaScript or TypeScript and familiarity with Node.js and modern web application technologies.
• Understanding of source control, testing, debugging, code review, and software troubleshooting with logs and development tools.
• Ability to learn unfamiliar technologies, complete well-defined engineering tasks, and collaborate effectively.
• Ability to work in a hybrid setup from the Sheffield office.

Nice to have

• Experience with Electron, Chromium, Windows desktop software, native Node.js modules, or JavaScript interoperability with native operating-system APIs.
• Familiarity with C++ or another systems programming language, Windows APIs, processes, registry, application lifecycle, or desktop security.
• Experience with packaging, installers, code signing, performance and memory diagnosis, continuous integration, or automated software delivery.
