Building Telecom System Designer (Telecommunications)

Location: United States; openings are available in Dallas/Plano, Las Vegas, Lenexa, Bentonville, Nashville, Phoenix, Houston, Kansas City, St. Louis, and remotely from the United States. Travel up to 15% is required.

What you will do

• Prepare telecommunications floor plans, room layouts, riser diagrams, pathway drawings, equipment layouts, schedules, details, and specifications.
• Design structured cabling infrastructure in accordance with TIA standards, owner requirements, and project criteria.
• Coordinate telecommunications systems with architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and technology disciplines.
• Support pathway sizing, room planning, equipment layouts, design reviews, quality control, schedules, budgets, and project deliverables.
• Review contractor submittals, shop drawings, RFIs, and field conditions, and participate in site visits and construction observation.
• Collaborate with clients, architects, engineers, contractors, and technology consultants throughout project delivery.

Requirements

• Legal authorization to work in the United States is required.
• At least 1 year of telecommunications design experience in an A&E, engineering, architectural, or MEP consulting environment is preferred.
• Experience preparing construction documents for building telecommunications systems.
• Working knowledge of TIA standards, NEC requirements related to telecommunications infrastructure, telecommunications rooms, pathways, backbone and horizontal cabling, and structured cabling principles.
• Proficiency with Revit and Bluebeam Revu.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, telecommunications, architectural engineering, construction management, or a related technical field is preferred.

Nice to have

• Active BICSI, CTS-D, RCDD, or related telecommunications certification.
• Experience with healthcare, higher education, commercial, government, mission-critical, or data center projects.
• Experience designing fiber optic and copper structured cabling systems.
• Familiarity with telecommunications specifications, construction administration, and multidisciplinary project coordination.
