Principal Software Development Engineer (Control-Plane)

Location: Hybrid in Santa Clara, California, with office presence at least 3 days per week; the position is limited to US locations.

Base pay range: $185,500–$265,000 USD annually, excluding bonus, equity, commissions, and benefits.

What you will do

• Define software designs and implement reliable, tested code using test-driven development and modern AI-based coding tools.
• Design, develop, and optimize control-plane systems, networking capabilities, and security features for high-performance applications.
• Improve the scalability, resilience, performance, and reliability of Zero Trust Security Services.
• Collaborate with engineering architects, product managers, customers, and solution architects on use cases, PRDs, and system issues.
• Coach junior engineers and maintain a high standard of delivery quality.

Requirements

• 12+ years of experience designing and building large-scale, highly reliable, and scalable software systems.
• Strong programming experience in Python and/or Go.
• Hands-on experience with AWS, GCP, and Azure cloud infrastructure.
• Deep knowledge of cloud networking services including Transit Gateway, Internet Gateway, NAT Gateway, NACLs, security groups, GWLB, ILB, Route 53, and Azure DNS.
• Foundational AI/ML knowledge and experience applying, securing, or positioning AI-driven solutions.
• Strong software design, profiling, verification, and performance optimization skills.

Nice to have

• Experience designing distributed systems and SaaS platforms with highly available and resilient production services.
• Deep knowledge of firewalls, network security principles, and core networking protocols.
• Experience building Firewall-as-a-Service solutions across AWS, GCP, and Azure.
