TL;DR
Principal Engineer (AI): Owning and evolving production-grade enterprise systems for an agentic software development platform with an accent on backend reliability, full-stack execution, and LLM-powered workflows. Focus on designing LLM validation loops, combining graph and vector databases for complex-domain reasoning, and solving scalability, performance, and operational reliability challenges.
Location: On-site in Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States
Salary: $300,000–$500,000 per year, plus bonus and equity.

What you will do
- Own mission-critical production systems end to end, including correctness, scalability, performance, reliability, and operational excellence.
- Design, build, and ship high-impact backend systems and features that improve product reliability and customer value.
- Architect scalable services and cloud infrastructure with Python, REST, gRPC, Kubernetes, and Terraform.
- Build and operate LLM-powered systems and validation loops for evaluation, regression testing, tracing, and failure analysis.
- Design data architectures across relational, NoSQL, graph, and vector databases for enterprise applications and semantic retrieval.
- Set engineering quality standards through hands-on technical leadership and long-term technical ownership.
Requirements
- Principal, Staff+, or comparable experience independently driving complex technical initiatives.
- Expertise in Python, backend frameworks, microservices, REST, and gRPC, with proficiency in Node.js and JavaScript.
- Proficiency in AWS and at least one additional cloud platform such as GCP or Azure.
- Advanced production experience with Kubernetes and Terraform, including highly available systems, monitoring, scalability, and performance optimization.
- Strong SQL and NoSQL knowledge, including databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Cassandra, or DynamoDB, plus familiarity with graph and vector databases.
- Hands-on experience operating LLM-powered systems in production and contributing across frontend, backend, infrastructure, and AI systems.
Nice to have
- Working knowledge of LangSmith or comparable LLM observability and evaluation tools.
- Familiarity with OpenAI, Anthropic, or similar model providers.
