Staff Engineer, Enterprise Externalization (AI)

Location: San Francisco, CA, USA

Expected base salary: $192,000–$272,000 USD per year. Bonus potential and early-stage equity are also offered.

What you will do

• Design and evolve enterprise identity systems, including organizations, groups, roles, SCIM provisioning, seat lifecycle management, and fine-grained authorization.
• Define tenant isolation, policy evaluation, access governance, and multi-tenant schemas for experiments, datasets, models, and scientific workflows.
• Architect systems for tenant provisioning, usage metering, billing, data migrations, compliance workflows, and operational automation.
• Build self-service and agentic operational workflows with strong safety guarantees, including customer observability and automated compliance capabilities.
• Develop platform APIs, SDKs, MCP integrations, and AI-native interfaces for customers and third-party agents.
• Provide hands-on technical leadership across platform engineering, infrastructure, security, AI/ML, and scientific application teams.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software development experience focused on enterprise SaaS product development.
• Deep expertise in authentication and authorization, including OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML, RBAC, multi-tenancy, billing, metering, SDKs, and APIs.
• Experience with cloud-native architectures, Kubernetes, Terraform, AWS or GCP, event-driven systems, infrastructure as code, and containerized deployments.
• Hands-on coding experience with Python, FastAPI, and asynchronous Python.
• Strong cross-functional communication skills and the ability to influence architecture across teams.
• BS, MS, or Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related field.

Nice to have

• Practical experience with agentic systems and workflow automation in regulated environments.
• Experience with scientific or laboratory data platforms such as LIMS, ELN, or bioinformatics systems.
• Experience building self-service enterprise tools for non-technical administrators.
• Experience with SOC 2, HIPAA, GxP, FedRAMP, or ALCOA+ compliance frameworks.
• Experience operating large-scale multi-tenant SaaS platforms with strict isolation and reliability requirements.
