Claim Specialist - Property Field Inspection

Location: Cortland, New York, United States. Candidates should reside within one of the listed ZIP codes and service the same territory. This is a remote-field role combining work from home with in-person field appointments and occasional travel to other territories.

Potential starting salary: $63,089.65–$90,000 annually, plus potential incentive pay of up to 15% of base salary.

What you will do

• Conduct on-site inspections of residential and commercial property damage, including accident- and weather-related losses.
• Meet with policyholders, explain coverage, assess damage, and guide customers through the claims process.
• Investigate and adjust personal and commercial property claims with exposures up to $500,000.
• Gather evidence, document findings, prepare reports, and evaluate policy terms and coverage validity.
• Negotiate and settle claims within authorized limits while following regulations, policy provisions, and company guidelines.
• Collaborate with policyholders, agents, and other parties, including during difficult or emotional conversations.

Requirements

• Residence within the listed ZIP codes and ability to service the Cortland, NY territory are required.
• Strong investigation, analytical, organizational, decision-making, and communication skills.
• Ability to interpret detailed policies, guidelines, and technical information and apply them accurately.
• Proficiency with mobile and desktop tools for documenting claims in the field and remotely.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Physical ability to walk, bend, kneel, squat, climb ladders, traverse roofs, lift and carry equipment, and crawl through tight spaces. Rope and harness safety training may be required.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s degree in risk management, insurance, business, construction management, or a related field.
• Customer service experience and knowledge of property insurance and claim handling.
• Knowledge of residential and commercial construction, building materials, water mitigation, and inspection processes.
• Working knowledge of Xactimate and XactContents.
