Principal Technical Specialist, Telco IP Core

Location: Macquarie Park, NSW, Australia; hybrid arrangement with three days in the office and two days remote or from home

What you will do

• Define and drive the architectural direction of the Telco IP Core and IP Modernisation programs.
• Develop, maintain, and drive adoption of architectural guidelines and technical standards.
• Chair IP Core solution, technical, and change review boards, ensuring decisions align with architecture, risk, and operational requirements.
• Represent Network Engineering in emergency services and IP strategy forums, including work related to E000 capability.
• Provide authoritative guidance and Tier-3 support for high-impact operational and architectural issues.
• Lead technical engagement with vendors and technology partners while mentoring senior engineers and building engineering capability.

Requirements

• Many years of IP network engineering experience, including at least five years in a leadership role and experience delivering complex engineering solutions and large projects.
• Deep knowledge of TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, routing, switching, and Telco IP Core architecture and governance.
• Experience developing and enforcing architectural standards, with an understanding of Internet governance, standards bodies, and industry forums.
• Familiarity with emergency services network requirements, including E000, and regulatory, legislative, and contractual obligations.
• Strong strategic communication, executive reporting, influencing, and conflict-management skills in a matrix environment.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree or network certification such as CCNP or CCIE.
• Experience with Netconf/YANG, Ansible, or other automation frameworks.
