Staff Avionics Test Software Engineer (Aerospace)

What you will do

• Own the architecture and technical direction of software frameworks for avionics hardware testing.
• Design reusable test libraries, drivers, APIs, services, and hardware abstraction layers for automated testing.
• Develop interfaces with avionics hardware, instrumentation, data acquisition systems, power supplies, communication buses, databases, and enterprise engineering tools.
• Build test automation for hardware bring-up, development testing, qualification, verification, and production test.
• Establish deterministic execution, fault handling, recovery, test reporting, data analysis, and anomaly detection capabilities.
• Lead technical reviews, troubleshoot software-hardware integration issues, mentor engineers, and improve test coverage and cycle time.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field with 7+ years of relevant experience, or 10+ years of relevant professional experience.
• Strong experience developing software for automated hardware testing, laboratory test systems, manufacturing test, or hardware-in-the-loop environments.
• Experience designing software architectures, frameworks, APIs, or reusable platforms.
• Strong proficiency in Python or another modern programming language.
• Experience with version control, code review, automated testing, debugging, continuous integration, and direct hardware or external-system interfaces.
• Experience with relational or time-series databases, including schema design, SQL queries, data integrity, performance optimization, and test-framework integration.

Nice to have

• Experience with avionics, aerospace, defense, automotive, robotics, HIL, SIL, ATE, or laboratory automation systems.
• Knowledge of CAN, ARINC 429, MIL-STD-1553, Ethernet, RS-232/422/485, SPI, I2C, or similar communication protocols.
• Experience with pytest, Git, GitHub or GitLab, Jenkins, Docker, distributed systems, RPC, or message-based architectures.
• Experience with real-time systems, embedded software, firmware, low-level hardware interfaces, and laboratory instrumentation.
• Experience leading cross-functional initiatives and mentoring engineers.
