Embedded Systems Software Engineer (Aerospace)

Location: North Kingstown, Rhode Island, USA; relocation packages are available.

What you will do

• Develop, debug, and maintain real-time embedded software from microcontroller code to Linux-based applications.
• Contribute to software-in-the-loop and hardware-in-the-loop test environments for controls verification.
• Set up and maintain sensors, servos, single-board computers, harnesses, breakout boards, and other COTS electronics.
• Automate build systems, deployment pipelines, and developer tooling supporting maintenance and certification.
• Participate in field testing and sea trials by monitoring operations, running diagnostics, and troubleshooting electronics.
• Collaborate with controls, avionics, modeling, and other cross-functional engineering teams.

Requirements

• Demonstrated experience writing C++ for embedded systems on Linux, RTOS, or bare metal.
• Hands-on experience with microcontrollers and interfaces including Serial, SPI, CAN, PWM, ADC, and DIO.
• Ability to read and contribute to wiring diagrams and electrical schematics.
• Scripting experience with Python, MATLAB, or similar languages.
• Experience with safety-critical applications, field testing, and real-world electronics troubleshooting.
• Experience with LabVIEW or Simulink for DAQ and HIL systems; familiarity with DO-178C or ISO 26262 is valuable.

Nice to have

• Experience with actuation systems such as servo motors.
• Familiarity with aerospace or automotive standards including DO-178C and ISO 26262.
