Litigation Counsel (AI)

Location: San Francisco, CA; work from the San Francisco office at least 3 days per week

Annual salary: $385,000–$460,000 USD

What you will do

• Manage litigation and pre-litigation matters involving intellectual property, copyright, class actions, commercial disputes, securities, and regulatory issues.
• Direct outside counsel through pre-suit response, discovery, dispositive briefing, trial or resolution, and appeal.
• Advise leadership and cross-functional partners on litigation risk, strategy, and matter-resolution proposals.
• Design processes, policies, and tools for matter intake, outside counsel budgeting, contingency reporting, and pre-litigation escalation.
• Support regulatory investigations and inquiries and coordinate information gathering across the business.
• Mentor team members and share developments in relevant laws, litigation trends, and AI-related case law.

Requirements

• JD and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar; California admission is preferred.
• Experience handling complex civil litigation, including discovery, federal and/or California state court rules, case strategy, legal briefs, and outside counsel management.
• Experience with some combination of copyright, class action, securities, and regulatory matters.
• Ability to explain litigation risk and strategy clearly to legal and non-legal audiences.
• Ability to work from the San Francisco office at least 3 days per week.

Nice to have

• At least 12 years of litigation experience combining global-focused law firm and in-house work.
• Experience representing technology or emerging-technology companies.
• Experience building systems, processes, or tools for in-house legal teams.
• Experience managing regulatory responses or investigations, including first-party and third-party responses.
• Interest in the development of innovative and trustworthy AI.
