Commercial Counsel (AI)

Location: Foster City, California, United States; hybrid schedule with in-office work required on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

Salary: $225,000–$290,000 per year, plus equity.

What you will do

• Lead legal support for complex, high-value enterprise sales transactions and negotiate sophisticated software agreements.
• Advise customers and internal teams on legal and regulatory considerations for AI-powered development tools, including privacy, security, and compliance.
• Design contract playbooks, template agreements, and scalable commercial legal processes.
• Identify and manage commercial risks while maintaining deal velocity.
• Partner with Product, Engineering, Security, Privacy, sales, and leadership teams on commercial offerings and emerging AI regulations.
• Build trusted relationships with enterprise customer legal teams and support platform adoption.

Requirements

• JD from an accredited law school and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar.
• 5–7 years of relevant legal experience supporting enterprise software sales and complex commercial transactions.
• Strong experience with SaaS agreements, software licensing, and technology transactions.
• Proven ability to close complex, multi-stakeholder deals and provide practical, solutions-oriented legal advice.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience influencing C-level executives and enterprise stakeholders.
• Ability to work from the Foster City, California office three days per week.

Nice to have

• In-house counsel experience at technology companies serving enterprise customers or developer audiences.
• Experience with AI, machine learning, developer platforms, code generation, or AI-assisted development.
• Knowledge of compliance requirements in regulated industries.
• Experience scaling legal processes during periods of rapid revenue growth.
