Desktop Engineer (Contractor) (Biotechnology)

Location: Remote or hybrid, with onsite support required as needed at offices in South San Francisco or Newark, California. Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Salary: $55–$65 per hour. Six-month contract with possible extension or contract-to-hire.

What you will do

• Manage Windows and macOS endpoint environments, including enrollment, provisioning, configuration, compliance, inventory, refresh, reassignment, and secure retirement.
• Package, test, deploy, maintain, and remove operating systems and third-party applications.
• Plan and execute operating system, browser, firmware, driver, and application patching while remediating vulnerabilities and deployment failures.
• Configure endpoint security controls, Microsoft 365 integrations, cloud identity access, authentication, device compliance, and collaboration services.
• Automate new-hire onboarding, zero-touch provisioning, account and license assignment, application delivery, and device configuration.
• Provide Tier 3 escalation and onsite support for hardware, networks, VPN, conference rooms, workplace technology, executives, and critical incidents.

Requirements

• At least five years of experience in desktop engineering, endpoint administration, or enterprise end-user computing support.
• Hands-on administration of Windows and macOS devices in a Microsoft-centric enterprise environment.
• Experience with endpoint management platforms, device enrollment, configuration, compliance, software deployment, inventory, and remote administration.
• Experience with patch management, vulnerability remediation, Microsoft 365, cloud identity, authentication, and collaboration services.
• Strong troubleshooting skills across operating systems, applications, hardware, identity, and network connectivity.
• Ability and willingness to provide onsite support in South San Francisco or Newark, California, and authorization to work in the United States.

Nice to have

• Networking knowledge covering TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, Wi-Fi, VPN, routing, switching, and network troubleshooting.
• Experience with security baselines, encryption, conditional access, least privilege, zero trust, and regulated environments.
• PowerShell, shell scripting, or other endpoint automation experience.
• Experience with conference room technology, audiovisual systems, printers, and hybrid meeting environments.
• Relevant industry or platform certifications.
