Senior Backend Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Dearborn, Michigan, United States; hybrid work preference.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and operate scalable backend services and APIs for high-volume telematics data from connected vehicle fleets.
• Build real-time and batch data pipelines for GPS, trip events, driver behavior, vehicle diagnostics, and sensor telemetry.
• Process and transform large-scale event streams using messaging and data-processing platforms such as Kafka, Pub/Sub, Spark, Dataflow, and BigQuery.
• Design and maintain data warehouse solutions and integrate RESTful or gRPC APIs.
• Develop or integrate AI/ML models and rule-based expert systems.
• Deploy and manage cloud-native backend services on Google Cloud Platform.

Requirements

• 7+ years of IT experience and 5+ years of software development experience.
• Bachelor’s degree and practical experience with one or more programming languages, including Kotlin, Java, Python, or an equivalent JVM/backend language.
• Experience with GCP services including Compute Engine, Cloud Storage, IAM, and Cloud Functions.
• Experience with Spark, Dataflow, BigQuery, Snowflake, or Redshift, as well as data warehouse design and large-scale data processing.
• Experience with Spring Boot, REST and gRPC API design, PostgreSQL, Redis, Bigtable, Kafka, or Pub/Sub.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, TDD, database performance tuning, API versioning, and AI/ML or MLOps-adjacent data pipeline patterns.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with Vertex AI, Dataflow, Cloud Composer (Airflow), and BigQuery ML.
• Relevant certification.
