Java Engineer (AI)

Location: Remote within the United States, based in Washington, District of Columbia, with occasional in-person participation required or approved for planning, training, meetings, workshops, and other program events.

What you will do

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain secure, scalable enterprise applications using Java 21+, Struts, and Spring Boot.
• Build web application components with Node.js and JavaScript frameworks, preferably Vue.js.
• Design and integrate RESTful APIs and microservices using Java and Python.
• Deploy cloud applications on AWS using Lambda, API Gateway, ECS, Step Functions, RDS, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, and Redis.
• Build CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions, containerize applications with Docker, and resolve complex production and deployment issues.
• Collaborate across development, architecture, DevOps, analysis, testing, and stakeholder teams while managing risks, blockers, and delivery priorities.

Requirements

• 5+ years of IT development experience with Java, Struts, and Spring Boot, including Java 21+.
• 3+ years of experience with Node.js, AWS application deployment, AWS services, and Python-based API development.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Docker, application integration, and cloud-based systems.
• Understanding of machine learning and artificial intelligence workflows.
• Experience with NIH IT systems supporting clinical research or research administration reporting is required.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Operations Management, or a related field; ability to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance is required.

Nice to have

• Vue.js experience.
• NIH badging or recent NIH badging.
• Master’s degree or MBA in a relevant field.
