Engineering Manager (Java)

Location: Chicago, Illinois, United States; four days per week in the office.

Base salary: $154,275–$199,650 per year, plus potential annual incentive compensation and applicable long-term equity programs.

What you will do

• Lead, grow, hire, and manage software engineers, including performance management.
• Guide system design using knowledge of clearing, post-trade processing, and capital markets.
• Align product roadmaps, scope, sequencing, and delivery capacity with product management.
• Shape team boundaries and service ownership to support the target architecture.
• Own architecture decision records, coding standards, code reviews, and engineering quality practices.
• Improve deployment frequency, change lead time, change failure rate, recovery time, on-call operations, and production support.

Requirements

• 10+ years of engineering experience, including 3+ years managing engineers.
• Experience owning delivery across the full software lifecycle, from design and code review through production support.
• Direct experience with performance management, hiring, and developing software engineers.
• Working knowledge of clearing, post-trade processing, or capital markets.
• Strong architecture judgment and a written-first working style, including the ability to author and challenge architecture decisions.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship.

Nice to have

• Hands-on Java development experience and experience with code review standards across multiple teams.
• Experience with FIX messaging, AWS, Azure, GCP, Clojure, Scala, or Kotlin.
• Experience designing developer tooling and measuring delivery health.
