Director of Software Applications Engineering (Cloud Networking)

Location: Hybrid – Salem, United States; occasional travel of up to 10–15% for team offsites, customer engagements, and company events.

Base salary: $190,000–$240,000 USD annually, plus bonus or incentive compensation, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Own the strategy, architecture, and execution roadmap for cloud applications, APIs, and middleware/data services supporting the cloud networking platform.
• Lead, hire, and develop multiple engineering teams, including managers and individual contributors.
• Partner with Product Management and senior engineering leadership to prioritize requirements and define technical roadmaps.
• Drive code quality, CI/CD, test automation, observability, and secure software development practices.
• Ensure scalability, availability, and performance across multi-tenant, multi-region cloud environments.
• Manage architecture evolution, incident response, capacity planning, budgets, vendor decisions, and executive communication.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 12+ years of progressive software engineering experience, including 5+ years leading or managing multiple engineering teams.
• Experience building and operating cloud-native applications using AWS, Azure, or GCP, including microservices, Docker, Kubernetes, and serverless technologies.
• Strong experience with REST/gRPC APIs, message queues or event streaming such as Kafka, data pipelines, and SQL or NoSQL databases.
• Experience with secure software development, CI/CD pipelines, observability, monitoring, organizational change, and complex cross-team initiatives.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence peers and senior leadership without direct authority.

Nice to have

• Experience in networking, cloud networking, infrastructure software, SD-WAN, network management, or IoT.
• Master’s degree in a relevant technical field or an MBA.
• Experience scaling engineering organizations during rapid product or company growth.
• Familiarity with multi-tenant SaaS, subscription or licensing models, enterprise security, SOC 2, GDPR, AIOps, telemetry, analytics, or large-scale data engineering.
