Engineering Manager, Middleware Transport (C++)

Zoox is developing autonomous driving hardware and software, including the data transport infrastructure required for vehicle operation and cloud connectivity.

What you will do

• Own the roadmap, staffing, and release commitments for messaging, in-vehicle networking, and vehicle-to-cloud connectivity.
• Lead, grow, and hire software engineers while managing performance and promotion cycles.
• Represent the team in cross-functional programs involving firmware, product security, simulation, fleet operations, and infrastructure.
• Set the technical direction for transport and serialization abstractions and ensure other software teams can build on them.
• Balance urgent reliability work with long-term architecture and communicate trade-offs to partner teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 9+ years of software development experience, including 4+ years managing software engineers.
• Strong knowledge of networked distributed systems, pub/sub and RPC middleware, vehicle or embedded networking, or transport protocols.
• Strong C++ experience with large codebases and technical dependencies.
• Experience driving work across organizational boundaries without directly managing all participating teams.

Nice to have

• Experience in robotics, automotive, aerospace, or another safety-relevant domain.
• Hands-on experience with DDS, PTP and time synchronization, QUIC, multipath transport, or Ethernet switch configuration and diagnostics at fleet scale.
• Experience building platform abstractions with internal customers, including migration and adoption.
