Engineering Manager (AI/ML)

Location: Remote within the United States; currently not hiring in Hawaii

Salary: $208,000–$260,000 base salary annually, plus equity; no bonus.

What you will do

• Provide technical leadership for the AI Engineering team across applied product capabilities and foundational ML platforms.
• Guide Senior and Staff engineers delivering transcript summarization, search relevance, and other user-facing AI features.
• Architect and scale core AI/ML infrastructure, including feature stores, MLOps pipelines, model deployment systems, and AI observability platforms.
• Manage delivery of product features and backend platform initiatives across multiple production release cycles.
• Coach engineers using Radical Candor while maintaining rigorous clinical safety standards.

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional software engineering and machine learning experience.
• 5+ years designing, scaling, and deploying distributed backend systems in cloud environments such as AWS or GCP.
• 3+ years of direct engineering management experience, including hiring, retaining, and managing Senior- and Staff-level engineers.
• 3+ years technically leading or building ML infrastructure, such as feature stores, MLOps pipelines, model deployment systems, or AI observability platforms.
• 2+ years developing production-grade applied AI features involving LLM integrations, NLP, transcript summarization, RAG, search, ranking, or relevance engines.
• Must be based in the United States; Hawaii is currently excluded.

Nice to have

• Experience shipping AI systems in regulated industries such as HealthTech or FinTech, including privacy, compliance, HIPAA, and safety requirements.
• Hands-on experience designing LLM evaluation frameworks using automated metrics, LLM-as-a-judge, and human-in-the-loop processes.
• Experience using AI development tools, coding agents, advanced IDE integrations, or automated testing bots.
• A framework for balancing short-term product delivery with long-term platform investment, technical debt, and infrastructure scaling.
