Packaging Engineer Co-op

Location: Schofield, Wisconsin, United States; onsite office work with occasional in-person meetings

Salary: $22.00–$28.00 per hour, based on position and academic year

What you will do

• Design and develop packaging solutions including crates, skids, corrugated materials, and foam components.
• Create and maintain packaging drawings, specifications, and documentation.
• Build, coordinate, and evaluate prototypes and supplier packaging tests, including applicable ISTA testing.
• Research packaging materials and identify opportunities to improve cost, sustainability, performance, transportation efficiency, and manufacturability.
• Analyze freight damage and claims data, standardize packaging components, and troubleshoot packaging issues with production teams.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing, Product Engineering, Logistics, Quality, Purchasing, and external suppliers; use approved AI and automation tools to improve analysis and design workflows.

Requirements

• Enrollment in a related bachelor's degree program such as Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Supply Chain, or Materials Science.
• On track to graduate within the next three semesters.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and critical-thinking skills.
• Basic hand-tool experience and comfort working with physical prototypes.
• Proficiency in Excel and working with data.
• Ability to work onsite in Schofield, Wisconsin and attend occasional in-person meetings.

Nice to have

• Experience with 3D modeling software.
• Coursework or experience with packaging materials, design, or testing methods such as ISTA or ASTM.
• Experience using AI tools in coursework or projects.
