Field Assembly Manager (Fusion Tokamak)

Location: Devens, Massachusetts, United States. On-site, third-shift position with occasional nights, weekends, on-call work, and travel.

What you will do

• Lead third-shift assembly operations supporting tokamak construction and integration.
• Directly supervise and coordinate millwright, welding, and electrical union activities.
• Set shift priorities, staffing, sequencing, and resource allocation based on production schedules and critical-path activities.
• Coordinate high-precision mechanical, electrical, structural, and welded assembly according to engineering drawings, specifications, and approved work instructions.
• Resolve trade conflicts, production delays, technical issues, and resource constraints while maintaining communication with day-shift leadership.
• Support continuous improvement, detailed shift reporting, configuration control, and coordination with Engineering, Quality, Safety, and Supply Chain.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations, or a related field preferred; equivalent manufacturing leadership experience may be considered.
• At least 5 years of experience in complex manufacturing, assembly, construction, or industrial environments.
• Strong understanding of mechanical, welding, electrical, and industrial assembly processes.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
• Strong understanding of industrial safety practices, including Lockout/Tagout.
• Ability to work on-site in an industrial facility with heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead, high voltage, high current, pressure systems, and cryogenics.

• Supervisory or leadership experience managing skilled trades.
• Experience with unionized workforces and high-precision or highly engineered manufacturing environments.
• Experience with Lean manufacturing and continuous-improvement methodologies.
• Experience with ERP, MES, scheduling, or production-management systems.
