Manager, Process Engineering - Assembly (Fusion Assembly)

Location: Devens, Massachusetts, United States. On-site; onsite work 5 days per week is required when assembly operations with relevant tools are underway, with possible first- or second-shift assignments. Occasional travel to vendors is required.

Salary: $110,000–$185,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead 8–15 process engineers developing, releasing, and implementing engineering work instructions for SPARC construction.
• Translate department strategy into group objectives, project timelines, priorities, and tracking tools for hundreds of planning tasks.
• Define and optimize process-engineering workflows and standards for mechanical assembly, alignment, installation, and rework.
• Manage hiring, training, performance expectations, coaching, and technical career development for the team.
• Collaborate with field assembly and design engineering teams, participate in design reviews, and provide manufacturing and assembly feedback.
• Support hands-on tokamak assembly and resolve technical issues involving high loads, vacuum requirements, complex manipulation, and tightly packaged systems.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in civil, structural, mechanical, or aerospace engineering.
• At least 7 years of mechanical engineering experience with demonstrated project ownership.
• At least 2 years of direct engineering-team management experience or experience leading a large-scale engineering project as an individual contributor.
• At least 2 years of experience with CAD software.
• Ability to work on-site 5 days per week during active assembly operations and work in an industrial facility with heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead, high voltage, high current, pressure systems, and cryogenics.
• Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs and perform extended periods of typing, standing, stooping, climbing, or sitting.

Nice to have

• 8+ years of mechanical engineering experience or 4+ years of direct engineering management experience.
• Three years of Siemens NX experience.
• Experience with lifting operations, welding, piping and tubing construction, or joining.
• Experience with complex or delicate assemblies, tightly packaged spaces, and fast-paced construction, manufacturing, or assembly/integration builds.
