Senior Process Engineer (Fusion Energy)

Location: Devens, Massachusetts, United States. On-site position with hands-on work in industrial, construction, commissioning, and operating environments. Occasional travel to suppliers, contractors, or operating facilities, including possible nights, weekends, and on-call work.

Salary: $110,000–$185,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Own process engineering scope from early concept through design, construction, commissioning, start-up, and operation.
• Develop process design bases, PFDs, heat and material balances, utility balances, P&IDs, equipment lists, line lists, and datasheets.
• Build steady-state and dynamic process models to guide system architecture, equipment selection, and operating strategies.
• Size and specify pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, vessels, columns, piping, control valves, relief devices, and other process equipment.
• Lead process safety activities, including HAZOPs, design reviews, relief and depressurization studies, and safeguard development.
• Support procurement, fabrication, construction, field engineering, commissioning, start-up, performance testing, operation, and troubleshooting.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• 7+ years of relevant industrial process engineering experience or equivalent demonstrated experience.
• Experience designing, scaling, commissioning, operating, and troubleshooting process systems in large-scale industrial facilities.
• Strong knowledge of chemical engineering fundamentals, process simulation, equipment sizing, process control, process safety, and relief system design.
• Experience with FEL or equivalent stage-gated project development, core process engineering deliverables, industrial vendors, fabricators, EPC organizations, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally and work hands-on around heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, high voltage, pressure and vacuum systems, hazardous materials, and cryogenics.

Nice to have

• Experience with large-scale cryogenic, helium, steam, molten salt, vacuum, industrial gas, fueling, or process utility systems.
• Background in power generation, petrochemical, LNG, industrial gases, chemical processing, nuclear, or other large-scale process facilities.
• Experience scaling first-of-a-kind technologies from pilot or demonstration scale to commercial operation.
• Experience with dynamic process simulation, control-system development, industrial automation, or Professional Engineer licensure.
