Sr Manager, Sustaining Process Engineering (Metal Additive Manufacturing)

Location: Fremont, California, United States; on-site

Salary: $132,000–$198,000 annual base salary, plus potential bonus and equity compensation.

What you will do

• Lead, hire, mentor, and develop Process Engineers and Technicians supporting printer qualification, metrology, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement.
• Set priorities across new printer qualification, fleet health monitoring, production support, and research and development demands.
• Establish standards for experimental design, statistical analysis, qualification reporting, root-cause investigations, and disposition decisions.
• Manage the metrology laboratory, including technicians, equipment, procedures, acceptance criteria, and cross-training.
• Partner with Hardware, Software, Applications, Manufacturing, and customers to validate printer features and align sustaining priorities with the product roadmap.
• Drive operational improvements that reduce requalification time and improve consistency across the printer fleet.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Materials, Manufacturing, or related engineering discipline.
• 6+ years of experience in advanced manufacturing, process engineering, metal additive manufacturing, laser powder bed fusion, or comparable precision manufacturing.
• 2+ years of direct engineering leadership experience, including hiring, performance management, and career development.
• Experience with metrology methods such as optical microscopy, 3D profilometry, digital radiography, and metallographic analysis.
• Strong analytical, statistical, cross-functional communication, prioritization, and technical team leadership skills.
• Ability to work on-site in an office and manufacturing laboratory environment and wear required personal protective equipment.

Nice to have

• Experience scaling a sustaining or qualification engineering function in a high-growth manufacturing environment.
• Experience with JMP or similar statistical software.
• Python or JSL scripting experience.
• CAD experience, such as SolidWorks.
