Senior Industrial Designer, Packaging Experience (Consumer Electronics)

Location: Hybrid in Santa Barbara/Goleta, California; applicants must live within commuting distance and work from the office 3 days per week.

Base salary: $122,000–$152,200 per year, depending on geographic location, qualifications, and experience.

What you will do

• Own structural and three-dimensional packaging design from box architecture and opening sequences through trays, inserts, and retention components.
• Develop concepts using sketching, paper studies, CAD, physical models, and intentional unboxing experiences.
• Create dielines, 3D models, and structural documentation for packaging engineering and suppliers.
• Take programs from concept through production release while maintaining design intent, craft, and timing.
• Build and review prototypes and production samples, validating fit, retention, assembly, and execution against approved designs.
• Collaborate with industrial design, engineering, sourcing, suppliers, and converters on scalable, sustainable packaging systems.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Packaging, or a related discipline.
• 5+ years of professional experience in industrial design, structural packaging design, or product development, including packaging for premium consumer products.
• Portfolio demonstrating three-dimensional design thinking, sketching, and resolved physical execution; a relevant portfolio is required.
• Fluency in 3D CAD such as NX, Rhino, or SolidWorks, plus Adobe Illustrator for dielines and experience with structural CAD software.
• Hands-on model-making and prototyping skills, with strong written, verbal, and visual communication.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available. Must work from the office 3 days per week.

Nice to have

• Experience taking structural designs into mass production with global suppliers.
• Knowledge of corrugated fiber, folding carton, molded pulp, and print finishing.
• Familiarity with ArtiosCAD, KeyShot, Figma, or similar tools.
• Interest in sustainability, material innovation, and distributed global collaboration.
