Senior Product Design Engineer (Floorcare)

Location: Needham, Massachusetts, United States; work from the Needham headquarters.

Salary: $93,800–$150,000 USD annually

What you will do

• Own the front-end technology and feasibility phase of the floorcare roadmap for next-generation vacuums and cleaning products.
• Develop system innovations spanning mechanical elements, sensors, software, batteries, connectivity, motors, and airflow.
• Use ideation, functional rigs, proof-of-concept prototypes, CAD layouts, 3D models, and working prototypes to evaluate solutions.
• Conduct design and engineering studies, product testing, and technical investigations focused on cleaning performance, maneuverability, and ease of use.
• Collaborate with product development, industrial design, brand, test kitchen, AD, and CI teams across the US, UK, and China.
• Coach junior colleagues and balance multiple projects and workflows against fast-paced deadlines.

Requirements

• 5–8+ years of experience in mechanical engineering and product development.
• Experience with electromechanical products, preferably motorized floor-cleaning systems or other high-duty-cycle mechanical assemblies.
• Experience designing plastic, silicone, rubber, and injection-molded parts.
• Proficiency with SolidWorks or Creo and the ability to independently identify, implement, and verify technical solutions.
• Hands-on laboratory experience building prototypes, conducting product testing, and reporting findings and next steps.
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, product design, industrial design, or a related discipline with an engineering focus.

Nice to have

• Experience with motorized vacuums, mops, or similar floorcare products.
• Experience working with intellectual property teams to track prior art and identify inventive solutions.
• Knowledge of electrical engineering, software, and mechanical principles.
