Senior Engineering Manager (AI)

Location: Remote, San Francisco, United States

Salary: $174,051–$273,775 base pay annually, depending on US geographic pay zone.

What you will do

• Build, mentor, and lead a distributed team of engineering managers, principal engineers, and senior software engineers.
• Develop AI measurement and evaluation frameworks for assessing value across codebases and engineering workflows.
• Optimize AI effectiveness and context retrieval pipelines to improve model accuracy, agent reliability, and unit costs.
• Build and operate scalable, resilient, and cost-efficient compute and runtime infrastructure for agentic workflows and developer tooling.
• Shape quarterly planning, capacity allocation, technical roadmaps, and product strategy with executive, product, and cross-functional partners.
• Foster a high-trust, operationally mature engineering culture focused on technical excellence and psychological safety.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience managing software engineering teams.
• 2+ years of experience managing engineering managers or leading senior and principal engineers.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong background in distributed systems, developer platforms, cloud infrastructure, or developer tooling.
• Experience with applied AI/ML systems, LLMs, AI agents, MCP tooling, RAG, or AI evaluation frameworks.
• Experience with product strategy, distributed asynchronous engineering environments, DevOps, CI/CD, and site reliability practices.
