Lead AI Engineer – Enterprise Data & AI

Location: Foster City, California, United States; hybrid workplace

Base salary: $230,000–$300,000 per year, excluding RSUs, stock appreciation rights, and possible sign-on bonus.

Zoox is developing a fully autonomous vehicle fleet and the supporting mobility ecosystem, combining robotics, machine learning, and design.

What you will do

• Design and deploy production-grade LLM applications and intelligent agents with complex reasoning, secure tool use, and autonomous multi-step workflows.
• Architect enterprise data and tool integrations using MCP servers and reusable connectors for Procurement, Supply Chain, Legal, Finance, HR, and Manufacturing.
• Implement AI gateways for authentication, rate limiting, logging, and policy compliance across model and agent traffic.
• Establish identity inheritance through SSO so agents operate only within the requesting user’s permissions.
• Partner with Information Security on RBAC/ABAC, observability, and secure agentic automation.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in Data or Software Engineering, including 2+ years deploying GenAI or LLM systems in production.
• Deep Python proficiency and experience with LangChain, LlamaIndex, provider-native orchestration, or comparable agent frameworks.
• Hands-on experience building or integrating MCP servers or similar connector frameworks.
• Experience with AI gateway solutions for governing agent traffic.
• Working knowledge of SAML, OIDC, OAuth 2.0, SSO, identity federation, and permission propagation through agentic tool calls.
• Experience with AWS Bedrock, Google Vertex AI, and vector databases such as MongoDB, Pinecone, Weaviate, Milvus, or OpenSearch.

Nice to have

• Experience developing AI solutions for Finance, Legal, HR, Supply Chain, or Manufacturing.
• Experience evaluating AI platform vendors and defining enterprise IAM patterns with Okta, Entra ID, or Ping.
• Experience establishing AI governance frameworks or centers of excellence.
• Background in autonomous vehicles, robotics, or high-tech manufacturing.
