TL;DR
Lead ML Engineer (AI) (Machine Learning, Computer Vision, LLMs, Retrieval): Designing and leading production-grade end-to-end ML/AI systems across computer vision, language, and retrieval domains for media products, operations, and newsroom workflows with an accent on scalable architecture, evaluation, monitoring, and shared AI services. Focus on selecting and integrating foundation models, building feedback loops, optimizing cost and latency, and delivering reliable AI applications across multiple brands.

Salary: USD 190,000–210,000 per year

What you will do
- Set the technical vision and execution roadmap for ML and AI across products, operations, and newsroom workflows.
- Architect and implement end-to-end ML systems covering data, training, evaluation, deployment, and monitoring.
- Lead model evaluation, benchmarking, monitoring, and feedback-loop strategies focused on quality, safety, and real-world impact.
- Assess foundation models, AI tooling, and infrastructure providers, balancing performance, latency, cost, and risk.
- Build reusable AI primitives, APIs, and shared services across the portfolio.
- Partner with Editorial, Product, Engineering, Data, and executive stakeholders while mentoring engineers and maintaining production reliability.
Requirements
- 8–12+ years of experience in machine learning, applied AI, and distributed systems, including operating models in production.
- Experience architecting and scaling end-to-end ML systems in high-traffic production environments.
- Deep expertise in Python, modern ML frameworks, and strong software engineering fundamentals.
- Experience with large language models, retrieval systems, generative AI, evaluation frameworks, monitoring strategies, and feedback loops.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, data engineering, cloud infrastructure such as AWS, GCP, or Azure, and cost/performance trade-offs.
- External candidates may be required to attend an in-person interview at a location.
