AI Engineer – Forward Deployed Engineering (AI FDE), U.S. Public Sector (Federal Focus) (GenAI)

Location: Washington, D.C., Maryland, or Virginia metropolitan area; U.S. citizenship and eligibility for a U.S. government Secret clearance are required. The role can be remote but includes periodic on-site work, customer collaboration, and travel to customers approximately once every 4–8 weeks.

Salary: $182,000–$250,208 USD annually, with potential bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Develop cutting-edge GenAI solutions based on Databricks AI research to solve customer problems.
• Own production rollouts of consumer-facing and internal GenAI applications.
• Serve as a trusted technical advisor to customers across multiple domains.
• Present technical work at conferences and contribute as an internal and external thought leader.
• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to influence priorities and shape the product roadmap.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship and eligibility for a U.S. government Secret clearance are required.
• Experience building GenAI applications using techniques such as RAG, multi-agent systems, Text2SQL, and fine-tuning.
• Experience with HuggingFace, LangChain, DSPy, pandas, scikit-learn, and PyTorch.
• Expertise deploying, evaluating, and optimizing production-grade GenAI and machine-learning applications.
• Experience deploying machine-learning systems on AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Graduate degree in a quantitative discipline or equivalent practical experience, plus the ability to communicate technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.

Nice to have

• Experience with the Databricks Intelligence Platform and Apache Spark for large-scale distributed datasets.
• Active Secret or higher security clearance.
