Director, Project Finance (Renewable Energy)

Location: Charlottesville, VA, USA; ability to work from Apex's headquarters is required, with hybrid work considered. Primarily traditional office hours with up to 5% travel for meetings, training, and site visits.

What you will do

• Lead the four-person Project Finance analysis team, setting priorities, modeling standards, staffing, and quality expectations.
• Build and maintain financial models for tax equity, back-leverage debt, M&A, and other project finance transactions through financial close.
• Review, stress-test, and validate models across the active transaction pipeline.
• Coordinate with internal deal teams, lenders, tax equity investors, executive leadership, and approval committees.
• Identify and resolve modeling and structuring issues during diligence, negotiation, and closing.
• Improve modeling tools, processes, templates, methodologies, and quality controls.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field.
• 10+ years of project finance, financial modeling, or valuation experience with current hands-on deal modeling.
• Experience building and defending complex tax equity, debt, and M&A models through investor and lender diligence.
• Experience managing or mentoring analysts or associates in a finance-intensive function.
• Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills, including knowledge of ITC, PTC, transferability, partnership flips, back-leverage, and sale-leaseback structures.
• Ability to work from the Charlottesville headquarters; valid driver's license and willingness to travel up to 5% are required.

• MBA or CFA.
• Experience using artificial intelligence to improve modeling efficiency and accuracy.
