Director of Special Projects - Finance

Location: Itasca, Illinois, United States; hybrid work opportunities

Salary: $175,000–$190,000 plus bonus

What you will do

• Lead substantial cross-functional projects from problem framing and analysis through executive decisions and implementation.
• Diagnose how planning, allocation, cost, and operational processes work in practice through interviews, workshops, and data analysis.
• Design future-state processes, operating models, structures, governance, and implementation plans.
• Connect financial logic, enterprise data, and operational realities to improve business decisions and reporting.
• Define metrics, models, and leadership reporting while improving the quality and transparency of decision-making evidence.
• Scope, manage, and evaluate external consulting partners, and lead internal, cross-functional, and third-party teams.

Requirements

• Six or more years of experience in management consulting, corporate strategy, finance transformation, or business operations.
• Experience owning complex, multi-stakeholder work from diagnosis through implementation.
• Strong quantitative skills, financial literacy, modeling ability, and experience working with complex enterprise data.
• Experience designing operating models, processes, or organizational structures and implementing them.
• Experience working with or inside professional services, including scoping engagements and managing partner delivery.
• Strong executive communication, recommendation-writing, and workshop facilitation skills.

Nice to have

• MBA or comparable advanced degree.
• Experience with planning, forecasting, resource allocation, or FP&A processes.
• Experience with AI strategy or delivery, including use-case prioritization and build, buy, or partner decisions.
• Working knowledge of SQL, Python, R, business intelligence, and planning tools.
• Experience in enterprise software, recurring-revenue businesses, post-acquisition integration, shared services, or regulated environments.
