Hardware Design Engineer, Systems (Storage Hardware)

Location: Santa Clara, California, United States. Primarily in-office; work from the Santa Clara office is required except for PTO, travel, or approved leave.

Annual base salary: $180,000–$270,000 USD, with potential incentive pay and equity.

What you will do

• Plan, lead, implement, and debug hardware design and qualification projects from concept through production.
• Participate in architecture design, technical documentation, eDVT, failure analysis, and custom hardware support.
• Define, execute, and automate hardware validation and qualification frameworks.
• Collaborate with Software, Operations, Manufacturing Test, and Support teams to introduce storage subsystems into production.
• Investigate complex customer and internal testbed hardware issues through deep-dive root cause analysis.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship while developing techniques to harden system designs.

Requirements

• 8+ years of hands-on experience in x86 architecture and storage-related hardware development, validation, and qualification.
• B.S. in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering; an M.S. is preferred.
• Deep expertise in x86 system architecture, CPU subsystems, DDR5, chipsets, BMC, Ethernet LOM, peripherals, NVMe drives, power supplies, and discrete power circuits.
• Knowledge of PCIe, UPI, SAS/SATA, I²C, I³C, SPI, SVID, high-speed Ethernet up to 400GbE, power and thermal analysis, and signal integrity.
• Experience with Verilog, CPLD design, Python or Bash scripting, hardware qualification automation, and industry-standard stress and qualification tools.
• Ability to direct diagnostic coverage and review hardware test plans; enterprise data storage or server industry experience is preferred.

• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.

• Experience using AI tools such as Claude or Gemini for design checks, test scripts, and diagnostic dashboards.
