Senior Backend Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Cambridge, Massachusetts or New York, New York, United States

Base salary: $150,000–$225,000 annually, plus annual incentive bonus and equity plans.

What you will do

• Design, develop, test, document, deploy, maintain, and improve reliable backend software.
• Build secure and performant customer-facing APIs that apply AI capabilities to specific workflows.
• Develop system architectures, API specifications, implementation requirements, and complexity estimates with stakeholders.
• Manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables.
• Test assumptions through instrumentation and prototyping.
• Support code reviews, knowledge sharing, mentorship, and technical development.

Requirements

• At least five years of direct experience developing customer-facing APIs within a team.
• Experience developing RESTful APIs and translating business requirements into technical plans.
• Experience across multiple stages of the software development lifecycle.
• Strong knowledge of algorithms, data structures, software architecture, and time and space complexity.
• Ability to reason about the behavior and performance of loosely coupled systems.
• Demonstrable technical depth in at least one domain, with strong verbal and written communication skills.
