Staff Software Engineer (AI)

Location: On-site in Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States

Salary: $220,000–$260,000 per year plus bonus and equity

What you will do

• Own architecture and technical roadmaps for core platform areas, balancing delivery speed, quality, security, and scalability.
• Write, review, and ship production code across the backend platform, infrastructure, and AI product surface.
• Drive technical responses to complex production issues, including postmortems and recurring-failure prevention.
• Improve how software is built, deployed, and operated across the enterprise development lifecycle.
• Build demos, prototypes, examples, and technical content to support adoption of new technologies.
• Mentor and unblock engineers while collaborating with engineering, design, sales, and other stakeholders in person.

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Advanced hands-on proficiency with Python, Terraform, and GCP, plus direct experience with AWS.
• Experience leading technical initiatives and architectural decisions across multiple systems or teams without formal people-management authority.
• Proficiency with backend technologies such as Node.js, NuxtJS, Express.js, or Python, and with languages including JavaScript, TypeScript, Java, C++, or Go.
• Experience with REST, gRPC, or GraphQL; relational and NoSQL databases; CI/CD; and Git or Perforce.
• Deep knowledge of microservices, distributed application design, AI platforms, and enterprise applications with 99%+ service-level availability.

Nice to have

• Experience building platforms or tools used by engineering teams.
• Experience acting as a de facto technical lead, clarifying ambiguous problems, or mentoring engineers.
