Manager, Engineering (Power Generation & Utilities) - Memphis

Location: On-site at the Southaven power generation facility, Southaven, Mississippi, with potential travel to other SpaceX sites; the role supports facilities serving Memphis, Tennessee.

What you will do

• Own automation, controls, and electrical systems for gas turbine, combined-cycle, and steam turbine power generation assets.
• Lead DCS, SCADA, PLC, instrumentation, control network, switchgear, protection, metering, and plant distribution engineering.
• Manage controls for supporting utilities including fuel gas, HVAC, fire protection, compressed air, cooling water, water treatment, wastewater, and industrial gas systems.
• Build, mentor, and manage automation and controls engineers and technicians as generation capacity and AI compute demand grow.
• Review engineering documentation and coordinate internal engineering, construction teams, OEMs, vendors, and contractors.
• Lead field commissioning, loop checks, functional and protection testing, start-up, hand-off, root-cause investigations, and reliability improvements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field.
• 8+ years of automation and controls engineering experience, including industrial power generation or large-scale critical power infrastructure.
• 3+ years of directly managing or leading engineers, preferably including technicians.
• Experience with DCS, PLC, HMI, and SCADA platforms, IEC 61131 programming, industrial IT/OT networking, Modbus, and DNP3.
• Knowledge of power systems, switchgear, protection, metering, control panels, electrical schematics, NFPA standards, IEEE standards, and commissioning.
• Ability to work on-site, perform hands-on work in hazardous environments and at heights, work extended hours and weekends, and provide 24/7 emergency on-call support.

Nice to have

• Gas turbine or combined-cycle plant controls experience, including turbine control systems, HRSG controls, plant-wide DCS integration, and balance-of-plant systems.
• Experience with Emerson, ABB, Siemens, Allen-Bradley, SEL, Ignition, EPLAN, or AutoCAD Electrical.
• PE license in Electrical or Controls Engineering, or willingness to pursue one.
• Familiarity with ICS cybersecurity frameworks such as NERC CIP and high-availability generation for critical or data center loads.
