TL;DR
Field Service Engineer (Semiconductor Manufacturing): Installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and modifying assembly and semiconductor equipment at customer sites across Japan and internationally with an accent on onsite support, cleanroom procedures, equipment integration, and safety. Focus on diagnosing process and equipment issues, implementing corrective actions, supporting preventive maintenance, and adapting to customer production schedules.

Location: Client sites across Japan, including Yokohama, Shiga, Mie, Yamanashi, and Iwate; overseas assignments such as South Korea and the United States may be required. The role involves frequent domestic and international travel, including assignments of up to 3–6 months, and work in semiconductor cleanrooms and other customer facilities.

What you will do

  • Install, set up, retrofit, relocate, maintain, and support assembly and semiconductor equipment at customer sites.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and process issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Provide onsite sustain support and preventive maintenance according to customer requirements.
  • Support equipment assembly, subsystem integration, SOP development, work instructions, and best practices.
  • Train and mentor engineers and technicians while preparing technical, travel, and expense reports.
  • Maintain tools, PPE, and assigned equipment while following customer protocols, NDA requirements, and safety procedures.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or higher in engineering or equivalent technical experience; at least 3 years of technical experience may substitute for an engineering degree.
  • 1–2+ years of experience in field service, installation, maintenance, manufacturing equipment, automation, semiconductor equipment, or a related industry.
  • Japanese communication capability is required: JLPT N3 or above at joining, with an expectation to reach JLPT N2 or BJT above 400 within two years.
  • Ability to read and apply technical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, manuals, equipment specifications, SOPs, and work instructions.
  • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, automation, mechatronics, pneumatic systems, industrial chemical handling, semiconductor manufacturing, and cleanroom protocols.
  • Willingness to work night shifts, weekends, extended hours, customer schedules, and frequent domestic and international assignments.

Nice to have

  • JLPT N2 or higher, or equivalent experience with Japanese customer communication and technical reporting.
  • English communication skills; TOEIC 500+ is recommended.
  • Experience training or mentoring engineers and technicians.
