TL;DR
Robotic Welding Engineer (MIG/MAG) (Heavy Fabrication): Developing, programming, and optimizing robotic MIG/MAG welding systems for mild steel weldments with an accent on weld process stability, equipment reliability, and production quality. Focus on troubleshooting robotic weld cells, improving fixtures and automation, supporting process launches, and reducing downtime, rework, and variation.
Location: Onsite in Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA

What you will do
- Develop, program, and optimize robotic MIG/MAG welding systems for mild steel heavy fabrication.
- Troubleshoot weld programming, controls, fixturing, fit-up, consumables, equipment condition, and process variation.
- Maintain compliance with WPS requirements, quality standards, process controls, and internal production requirements.
- Support weld technicians, maintenance activities, preventive maintenance scheduling, equipment reliability, and robotic weld cell uptime.
- Support new product introductions, engineering and tooling changes, process launches, and manufacturability reviews.
- Analyze downtime, weld defects, rework, and process performance data to recommend automation, tooling, and capital improvements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in welding, manufacturing, mechanical, electrical, or a related technical field, or equivalent technical education and experience.
- Strong knowledge of MIG/MAG welding for mild steel, including parameters, consumables, shielding gas, defects, corrective actions, and weld system controls.
- Robotics and weld-control programming knowledge for heavy fabrication; experience with Fanuc, ABB, Yaskawa/Motoman, Panasonic, , or similar platforms is relevant.
- Knowledge of heavy fabrication equipment, fixtures, tooling, weld symbols, WPS requirements, engineering drawings, and manufacturing documentation.
- Experience with technician support, maintenance troubleshooting, production downtime response, and vendor communication.
- Microsoft Office skills are required; CAD, offline robot programming, simulation software, SAP, and maintenance systems are helpful.
Nice to have
- Experience in heavy equipment, structural fabrication, or large mild steel weldment manufacturing.
- Knowledge of AWS D1.1 or similar welding codes, weld procedure development, and weld inspection.
- Experience with robotic weld-cell launches, automation projects, fixture design reviews, or capital equipment installation.
