TCA Mechanical Design Engineer Level 1 (Aerospace)

What you will do

• Own the TCA hardware lifecycle from requirements through manufacturing and flight qualification.
• Design rocket engine injectors, combustion chambers, nozzles, tooling, fixtures, and work-holding solutions.
• Apply hand calculations, thermal and structural FEA, tolerance stack-ups, and design-for-manufacturability principles.
• Develop manufacturing processes using additive manufacturing, precision CNC machining, EDM, laser welding, vacuum brazing, and diffusion bonding.
• Plan hotfire test campaigns, analyze results, and lead rapid redesigns.
• Release production-ready models, drawings, specifications, and documentation while working directly with machinists, welders, and technicians.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Aerospace Engineering.
• At least 1 year of mechanical design experience with rocket engines or comparable high-performance hardware; internships, co-ops, and student or research team experience count.
• Mechanical design proficiency with DFM/DFA and hands-on fabrication, assembly, or component manufacturing experience.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD, structural analysis tools, and engineering drawings using ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards.
• Strong fundamentals in thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and structural mechanics.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or national, lawful permanent resident, protected individual, or eligible to obtain the required U.S. Department of State authorizations under ITAR.

Nice to have

• 2+ years of TCA hardware experience, including component lifecycle ownership through production.
• Experience with CNC machining, welding or brazing, additive manufacturing, DfAM, or specialized joining.
• Experience with 5-axis CNC, high-speed or Swiss machining, tooling design, EDM electrodes, or CMM fixtures.
• Experience with Ansys Mechanical, Fluent, Thermal Desktop, or a master's degree in engineering.
• Leadership in a student rocketry, Formula SAE, or similar design-build-test team.
